diner en blanc

+ a picnic like no other +

It was like something out of a dream, being whisked away to dine under the stars, with around 3000 people, all dressed in their most immaculate whites, on Sydney's iconic Bondi Beach, what a treat & a truly memorable occasion!

I was lucky enough to be a guest of Piper-Heidsieck Australia at the annual Diner en Blanc event, a gathering that began 25 years ago with a group of friends in Paris. Now this chic picnic happens all over the world, being celebrated in a multitude of cities all with the same ethos of embracing a stunning location for but a moment in time to celebrate & share an experience like no other.

It was spectacular. We waved our napkins, we dined on our beautiful picnic hamper provided by Kitchen & popped a cork or two of Piper-Heidsieck in celebration of a stellar evening & the meeting of some lovely new friends.

KINFOLK AT THE COTTAGE

+ morning musing +

Feeling a little like you do on Christmas morning, I was up at sunrise & feeling calm, excited & keen to get stuck into the day. The puppies were given a bath & of course, they decided to roll all over our lovely clean white bed, after they had a run around the yard, they knew something fun was afoot & they thought they'd get amongst it early on { never are they that naughty I might add }.

With the doona cover in the wash I started on our table centrepiece, unloading armfuls of greenery & blooms from the bathtub to the front yard, the cottage was starting to shine.

Mario & Liz from Mario's Kitchen soon arrived in their big red van, like a gorgeous glossy toffee apple filled with the most delicious ingredients ready to be prepped for our lovely lunch.

Followed shortly after by Natalie my gorgeous co-host & Luisa Brimble our beautiful photographer, armed with trays of sweet goods & breads from The Berry Sourdough Cafe. Then our wonderul & talented helpers Heather & Amy piled in, along with Amie from The Berry Tea Shop & soon it was a full house with us all buzzing in prepping & setting & making the finishing touches on things in anticipation of our guests.

the art of preparation

There's something so incredibly raw & beautiful & abundant & rewarding about a 3.30am start to get to the flower markets on sunrise. It's a little like still being in a dream, perusing the ample buckets of peonies & breathing deeply the heady scent of spring, that is, until you almost get run over by a trolley or need to duck to avoid being taken out by someone with an arm full of branches.

I adore the markets & spring time makes everything new again.

So it was on the Friday before our long table lunch in the country, an early start, a coffee fix & a fun round trip in anticipation & preparation for the following days events.

A celebration to launch of the bautiful Kinfolk table cookbook, an opportunity to gather like minds & feast & share. Hosted by Natalie Hayllar of Eat Read Love & myself at my little country cottage in Kangaroo Valley.

the cottage

We welcomed a very special guest to shoot the cottage for a super exciting project that he's working on, Mr Tim Neve, a gorgeous guy & great stylist.

Having the sunshine warming our hearts, the cottage, as it always does in the warmer months, moves more toward 'beach shack' than 'country retreat' & seems to be in more of it's natural element.

Can't wait to see the results, here's a little peek at what we got up to...
